We have arranged a visit to the city of Worcester to see the Cathedral and the Museum of Royal Worcester porcelain.
The coach will take us from Priory Lane in Burford, leaving at 9.00 am to Worcester Cathedral where we arrive at about 10.15 am. There is a café (and loos) in the Cloister.
We shall then have a guided tour of the Cathedral lasting about an hour.
The Cathedral was founded in 680, but rebuilt in medieval times in the Romanesque style, and later the east end was rebuilt in the Early English Gothic style. It had extensive refurbishments in the Victorian times – the medieval misericords reset in the Victorian choir stalls – and furnishings by George Gilbert Scott. Both Prince Arthur (Henry VIII’s older brother) and King John are buried here. Lots to see!
There will be a (free, optional) organ recital taking place from12.15 to 1pm.
We’ll have lunch at a café on the way to the Museum of Royal Worcester (formerly the Dyson Perrins Worcester Porcelain museum). It is about a 7 - 10 minute walk from the Cathedral to the Museum. (Lunch is not included in the price).
In the afternoon we shall have a guided tour of the Porcelain Museum lasting about an hour which will include the opportunity to handle and discuss pieces of porcelain followed by a cup of tea and biscuit served on Worcester porcelain. We’ll have free time to look around the museum and gift shop before boarding the coach at 4.30 pm to arrive in Burford about 5.30 pm.
Cost: £56 for members, £59 for non-members.
